I am incorrigible.

I'm in a New York State of Mind.
I guess it's finally time to write a proper post about New York City; now that I've handed up my paper, uploaded my photos, and have some time before school starts. New York was awesome. Times Square was a fantastic explosion of sights and sounds, of colour and lights, and it just seemed as if the city was... alive. But the best part, was that Manhattan, felt like home. I can't really explain it, but I guess having friends around, and the fact that the city is so metropolitan, contributed to it.
Beautiful may not be the first thing that comes to mind when people think of New York, but to me, it is. It could be because it was my first time there, and only a 3 week stay at that, but I felt happy just walking through the streets, in the cold winter air in my trenchcoat and boots, often holding a cup of hot soup or tea, and just, simply, walking. I love the way the city is organized. The grid system, with the parallel intersecting streets and avenues, and the metro lines which link them all so seamlessly - so hard to get lost, and even if you do, easy to find your way back. Good for exploring as well, because there's always something to see, another street or avenue to walk down. And you can always take different routes each time, from the same starting point to the same destination.
And oh yes, there are beautiful things to see.
Having Broadway, a stone's throw away, was another great thing about being there. And the fantastic malls and outlet shopping. The really beautiful lights which were up because it was near Christmas. The snow. The nice restaurants. The 24-hour Duane Reades and random delis. The cool air. The warm and toasty feeling you get indoors. The outspoken, outgoing people.
The company visits were a great experience as well - being able to see the office of Sony BMG, the super fantastic Google office and CANTEEN (I cannot even begin to describe how totally fabulous it is), insights into how these companies and others like FOX Broadcasting and Brooklyn Industries work, as well as getting a feel about these cultural industries in New York; music, broadcasting, fashion, theatre, and advertising.
And of course... the people who made the trip so fun.
Although I was sick for a good part of the trip, all in all, it was three weeks well spent. About 2 weeks of the BSM, and 1 week of a short trip to Orlando and hanging out with Brandon and Liz. But that's another story for another time.
I'm just very grateful that I got this chance, and really hope that I can go there again, or work there someday.
Sigh. I'm happy.
